Healing through holistic therapy

Every kind of heart and vascular disease is diagnosed and treated at our Cardiovascular Centre. It is the largest cardiovascular centre in Schleswig-Holstein and consists of three departments: Cardiology & Angiology, Cardiac & Vascular Surgery and Cardiovascular Rehabilitation.

Our patients receive comprehensive treatment under one roof, from diagnosis through to interventional and surgical treatment and rehabilitation. What makes our therapeutic concept so special is that it is holistic – we not only have cardiologists and heart surgeons, but also psychologists, specialists in psychosomatic medicine and physiotherapists, on board to create an individual therapy plan for each patient right from the start of their treatment.

Safety through long years of experience

The 40 physicians in our Cardiology & Angiology Department treat more than 10,000 patients per year and provide expertise and advanced diagnostics for the necessary safety in inserting peripheral vascular catheters and catheterisation of the left and right sides of the heart. Electrophysiological examinations for diagnosing cardiac arrhythmias and cardiac ultrasound (colour Doppler echocardiography and stress echocardiography) enable a targeted treatment of heart and vascular diseases.

A particular focus is interventional cardiology with balloon dilatation (angioplasty) and stent implantation in blocked or narrowed coronary vessels, femoral (leg), brachial (arm) and carotid (neck) arteries. Surgery can often be avoided by using this technique. Following diagnosis, the cardiologists discuss the appropriate treatment method in cross-disciplinary team conferences with the cardiac and vascular surgeons

The Department of Cardiovascular Surgery performs surgery to the coronary vessels, the aorta and peripheral vessels. Faulty heart valves are replaced and heart defects are corrected. Many procedures are performed using the heart-lung machine. Where possible, endoscopic surgery is used, employing minimally invasive techniques.

The Cardiovascular Centre has been certified by the German Society for Prevention and Rehabilitation (DGPR) since 2008.
