Bringing medical science to the patient
Telemedicine means that medical science can be brought to the patient. Heart patients can stay at home and carry out the necessary procedures of testing blood pressure, weight, or ECG themselves if there are any problems. The measurements are then sent by telephone or modem to be evaluated by doctors at our Cardiovascular Centre. A cardiologist will discuss the next steps over the phone, e.g. admission to hospital or visiting a family doctor the following day. The benefits of telemedicine are that advice and assistance can be given around the clock, potentially saving vital time in an emergency. It also gives the patient more mobility.
Telemedicine is useful in cases such as chronic cardiac insufficiency, cardiac arrhythmia, cardiac insufficiency, and after an acute cardiac event.
