Treating nerve diseases

At our Neurological Centre more than 300 employees at three locations look after the wellbeing of our patients.

Our doctors treat the full range of neurological diseases in acute and rehabilitation phases, such as strokes, Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, Guillian-Barré Syndrome, brain injuries, brain damage as a result of cardiac arrest, cancers of the brain and spinal cord, spinal polyneuropathies and intervertebral disc pain.

Interdisciplinary Treatment Approach

Our Neurological Centre is the teaching hospital for the University Hospital of Schleswig-Holstein Kiel Campus, and with 300 beds is one of Germany’s biggest acute-rehabilitative facilities. It is structured into the following departments:

- Acute neurology
- Early neurologic-neurosurgical rehabilitation
- Neurological-neurosurgical rehabilitation

The combination acute and rehabilitation clinics gives our physicians access to the whole spectrum of physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy and neuropsychology treatments even during the acute phase. This is important because starting therapy early can be crucial to the recovery of faculties and to convalescence. The treatment plan adopted by the medical team is regularly reviewed and adjusted according to progress. Close interaction between all three departments in the areas of nursing staff, therapeutic staff and doctors ensures a reliable service based on a cross-departmental treatment concept.
Our focal points include the treatment of

  • Strokes
  • Parkinson's
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Other fields in which we have acquired special expertise in regard to diagnosis and therapy.

Our Neurological Centre has been recognised as an MS Centre by the DMSG (German Multiple Sclerosis Society) since 2007.
