Precise ultrasound diagnosis
The doctors at our Gastrointestinal Centre, another of our nationally renowned specialist departments, specialise in disorders affecting the abdominal region.
Our specialised internists, gastroenterologists, visceral surgeons and radiologists work together to examine and treat all disorders of the gastrointestinal tract (stomach, colon, biliary tract, liver and pancreas). The Gastrointestinal Centre, which works closely with medical specialist practices in the Bad Segeberg region, also has gynaecologists and urologists as needed. For emergencies, our emergency ward is on call 24/7, and immediate treatment or emergency surgery can be performed if necessary. Monitoring and follow-up treatment is handled in an interdisciplinary intensive care unit (ICU).
Identifying even the smallest changes
Specially trained doctors and nursing staff care for patients with acute and chronic gastrointestinal disorders or tumours. High-resolution ultrasound and endoscopic equipment is on hand for diagnosis and treatment, and is used to identify inflammatory and/or tumourous changes and verify them with tissue samples. Combining ultrasound with endoscopy (endosonography) makes it possible to identify even minute changes in the biliary tract and reliably assess the severity of tumours (e.g. early-stage carcinoma). In most cases, these diseases can then be treated endoscopically. Cases requiring subsequent surgery are discussed by the specialists across various departments and surgically treated. Today, minimally invasive procedures can be opted for in many cases.
