Multiple Sclerosis
In 2006 we set up a specially designed ward to meet the specific needs of patients with acute episodic MS who are fully ambulatory without aid, and are up and about most of the day, despite relatively severe disability (EDSS 4).
It is aimed at patients who, after a stay on the rehabilitation ward, can control their symptoms to such an extent that they can continue to be gainfully employed, or delay an impact on their working life. These mainly involve less severe movement and balance disorders, mild fine motor skill disturbances, bladder disorders, mild cognitive impairment, mental disorders and especially symptoms of fatigue.
The multi-professional MS rehabilitation team consists of a neurological medical team with many years of experience in the treatment of MS, along with neuro-psychologists, psychotherapists, physiotherapists, sports therapists, occupational therapists and specially trained nurses. Treatment focuses on improving MS-specific physical deficits, diagnosis and treatment of cognitive or psychological disorders (in particular fatigue management and coping management), and supplying patient-oriented information on MS and modern treatment options.
The therapeutic focus is on a comprehensive range of training and consulting services:
- Participation in an MS outpatient training programme for treating episodic MS, developed and evaluated by Hamburg’s UKE (University Clinic Eppendorf)
- MS seminars run by doctors and psychologists
- Therapeutic instruction for a customised fitness training programme, ideally to be continued on an outpatient basis
Apart from this, outpatient diagnostics and treatment have been available in consultation with our resident neurologists since the beginning of 2009. To schedule appointments or for any other questions, please contact the office by telephoning +49 (0) 4551 802-5801 or e-mailing us at: ms@segebergerkliniken.de
The Neurological Centre has been recognised as an MS Centre by the DMSG (German Multiple Sclerosis Society) since 2007.
