Priority treatment for Parkinson's
Since 2006, the Neurological Centre has specialised in Parkinson's Disease and movement disorders.
As an acute neurological and rehabilitation clinic, we also offer high-level modern diagnostics in this field. An interdisciplinary team of specialist doctors, physiotherapists, occupational and speech therapists, neuropsychologists and specially trained Parkinson's nurses provide individualised medical treatment according to the guidelines of professional societies and to a specific treatment plan drawn up to a patient’s prevailing Parkinson's Disease symptoms. If it becomes necessary to extend the treatment, we offer comprehensive, balanced advice about the available options such as deep brain stimulation (brain pacemaker), or Duodopa ® and Apomorphine ® pumps. Deep-brain stimulation patients are monitored following surgery for proper adjustment of the stimulator. The Duodopa pump is installed by a senior physician at the Centre for Stomach Disorders who is very experienced in this technique. The close spatial and personnel collaboration with the Cardiovascular Centre ensures that even patients with additional complex cardiovascular disorders also receive expert treatment.
In the field of rehabilitation, there is a particular focus on the diagnosis and treatment of swallowing and speech disorders, as well as on treatment approaches specific to Parkinson's for the alleviation of movement and balance disorders, which are often very difficult to control using medication and surgical procedures.
In addition, the Senior Head of Department Dr. Björn Hauptmann offers a consultation hour for movement disorders’. To schedule an appointment or if you have any other questions, please call the office (+49 (0) 4551) 802-5801 or send an e-mail to: parkinson@segebergerkliniken.de. Inpatient treatment is scheduled upon admission. Patients may be admitted by emergency admission or by filing a rehabilitation request. In addition, we also run outpatient video therapy at www.mvb-parkinson.de.

Once a month, the Segeberg dPV (German Parkinson's Disease Association) hosts a self-help group meeting for interested patients, featuring information and lectures about Parkinson's. You are always very welcome to join the meeting.
