Spectrum of Services
The following disorders are treated in Acute Neurology: acute strokes, Parkinson's Disease and related diseases, inflammatory diseases such as meningitis, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, dementia, dizziness, disorders of the nerves, such as polyneuropathy, and spinal and muscular disorders.
Diagnostic procedures include:
- Doppler-/Duplex ultrasonography to create an ultrasound image of the vessels supplying the brain in the neck and head.
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) which uses magnetic radiation to create a view of the brain.
- Computer tomography to create cross-section images of the brain (in “slices” or layers) using X-rays
- Electroencephalography (EEG) to record the brain's electrical activity
- Evoked response for assessing and localising sensory disorders – i.e. of vision, feeling, hearing – and of the neural channels controlling movement.
- Electroneuro-/electromyography to investigate nerve channels and muscle disorders
- Lumbar puncture to investigate the cerebrospinal fluid (e.g. in inflammatory brain disease)
- Neuropsychological testing

- Physiotherapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy
- Botulinum toxin therapy
- Intensive care unit for seriously ill neurological patients and coma vigil
